I believe it will be avaialble in manual, pretty much all VWs are except for the Touareg, but that's a high-end car, where as the Tiguan is aimed at a younger and sportier crowd.

I'm waiting for the Bluetech diesel.

I really hope they don't wait another year to release the diesel. 
Spring '08 is far enough away as it is.

My daily driver is a '90 Suzuki Swift GT with 425,000 KMs.
I've had her since she was new (000,014 KMs).
Suzi can only go so much further before (well...  you know).
I'm keeping my fingers crossed.

Diesel for sure. Can't speak to what's gonna happen in Canada but from the info I could dig up, looks like the USA is going to get a 2.0T 2WD with manual or Automatic. 4Motion models will only be available with the Automatic trans.

Hopefully everyone will be listening.  Without a doubt, I will get one next year, but I would like to see other automakers make diesels in the U.S., other than trucks or $45,000 Jeeps.

Agreed! And they should have some towing capacity too. I think VW is doing the right thing giving the Tiguan 5500 lbs towing capacity. Most of the small SUV's only have 1500-3500 lbs of towing capacity. There is some talk about Honda putting their new diesel in the CRV. Doubt it would have much towing capacity though.

My local VW dealer says the Tiguan will have a v6 diesel, apparently the same as the Touran... personally I want the 2.0 tdi, with the 40 mpg.

I also want the 4Motion but hear will only be available with the automatic... hope VW changes their mind on this as that's why I haven't bought the Passsat 4Motion already.

Not sure the dealer is correct on the V6 TDI. I think he's confusing it with the V6 TDI they're putting in the Touareg soon. I've also read the same thing about the 4Motion/Auto combo. I don't like that either but it won't be a show stopper for me.
