2009 Tiguan Recall.

Volkswagen of America has released a recall in conjunction with the NHTSA of its 2008 Passat in both sedan and wagon versions, in addition to its just launched 2009 Tiguan SUV powered by the 2.0-liter FSI ULVEV II engine.

On the models in question, the Engine Control Module (ECM) reportedly could have trouble controlling engine RPMs at idle while the air conditioning is in use, resulting in a possible "engine surge."

Although the automaker claims only a small portion of the models produced may be affected, it is highly recommended that owners take their vehicles into an authorized dealership for a free inspection and ECM replacement (if deemed necessary).

VW assures owners that vehicles can be driven safely without the use of the air conditioning until inspected and fixed by a dealership.

As an incentive, VW is offering a complimentary wash and fuel fill-up if owners schedule their free inspection before August 30, 2008.

If owners have paid for an ECM replacement or inspection prior to the recall, reimbursement will be considered accordingly.

It's nice to know VW is jumping on it right away.
